Lay Responder First Aid
Modular training that fits your needs
The Red Cross Lay Responder First Aid training is the most common type of class we teach. The modular design allows you the flexibility to pick and choose what you or your company needs. The content of the classes is First Aid, CPR, and AED. The topic of the classes is Infant, Child, Pediatric (Infant & Child), and Adult. The teaching style of the classes is Full Instructor-Led training (all classroom training) and the hybrid Blended Learning training (online course + hands-on classroom session). The most common classes you will see online are Blended Learning Adult CPR/AED, Blended Learning Adult First Aid CPR/AED, and Blended Learning Adult & Pediatric First Aid CPR/AED.
Add-on or Stand-Alone Classes
- Skill Boost: Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector Administration
- Skill Boost: Head, Neck, Muscle, Bone and Joint Injuries and Splinting
- Skill Boost: Asthma and Quick-Relief Medication Administration
- Skill Boost: Life-Threatening Bleeding and Tourniquet Application
- Skill Boost: Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Administration
Each of these sections can be taught alone. They are better served as an add-on to an existing course. Prices for stand-alone classes are higher than if they are added to a purchased course. The goal here is flexibility. If you need a First Aid class AND EpiPen Training then adding it to your First Aid class is the best price. Some courses are only 30min to 1hr long. As a Stand-Alone course, some Skill Boost classes require that you have certification in First Aid CPR/AED in order to take the class.

BLS - Basic Life Support
BLS - Basic Life Support - is the standard class for many professionals such as EMT's, Nurses, Pharmacists, and others. The focus is on 2 or 3 people rotational CPR/AED in a hospital-type setting. The BLS course is offered in 2 different formats.
The Instructor-Led class is all taught in class. Nothing is required ahead of time. There is a written test at the end that requires an 80% or better passing grade to receive a certificate. The class is roughly 4hrs 45min long.
The Blended Learning class is part online content, part in-class session. The online portion takes roughly 1 to 2 1/2 hours to complete which varies depending on your skills and familiarity with computers. A paper copy or photo of the online completion certificate is required when you attend the in-class portion of the class. The in-class portion is roughly 2hrs 45min long but there is no written test at the end. Most people prefer the Blended Learning Class due to the shorter class time, the ability to complete the online portion at their convenience and there is no test at the end.
Instructor Trainer "IT" Courses
The Red Cross Instructor Courses train you to become a Red Cross Instructor. Currently, I teach the First Aid Instructor "IT" courses most of the time. I am also certified to teach the BLS Instructor Course.
The Instructor Course is a bit more intense. I do not teach you to be a Red Cross Instructor. I simply verify you are ready to become an Instructor. There is a bit of homework involved in becoming an instructor. Most of the people who fail the class are unprepared. It is required that you finish the online portion, read through the Instructor's Manual, and watch the presentation before attending class. When you walk into class you are saying "I'm ready to become a Red Cross Instructor".
Other training offered
I teach a variety of courses. Below are just some of the classes I teach. If you have an interest in any of the classes listed below, please contact me. I will do my best to help setup a class.
